ICT Build Consultant

The DfE capital team is leading the largest new school building and refurbishment programme seen in the country for the past 50 years.

Novatia has developed an excellent reputation of working within the Main Build Contractors' teams to design and deliver high quality ICT solutions to meet the DfE's exacting standards. We continue to experience a high demand for our services and are looking to expand our team with high quality, experienced consultants across all regions.

As a member of our busy ICT Consultants (Build Integration) Team, you would be required to work closely with our Main Build Contractor partners - delivering professional ICT consultancy and project management services from pre-sales engagement through to solution handover. 

With at least three years' experience of designing ICT infrastructure solutions for new build and refurbished schools, you will have an excellent understanding of specifying ICT solutions and integrating them into the built environment. You will also have the ability to work to tight timescales, whilst drawing on your client engagement, technical, project management and consulting skills.

This role covers projects throughout England. 


You'll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Main Contractor's bid team to win significant opportunities - including single school and multi-school new build and refurbishment schemes.
  • Working with the design team to create an integrated coordinated solution with the architect, M&E and FEE teams.
  • Taking a consultative approach with the DfE and School stakeholders, establishing their ICT requirements and developing solutions to meet each school's specific requirements.
  • Developing high quality bid and delivery documentation for each solution.
  • Overseeing solution implementations to ensure they meet Novatia's stringent quality expectations.

You will be a driven, positive individual with excellent communication as well as first-rate technical skills within ICT and Education. You will also be a team player with the ability to relate to people at all levels within client organisations. You'll need to have:

  • A degree (ideally).
  • A CSCS Card (desirable).
  • A current DBS Enhanced Level - or willingness to undergo a DBS check.
  • Prince 2 (desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • At least three years' experience of designing ICT Infrastructure solutions for new build and refurbished schools.
  • Experience of designing teaching wall audio visual solutions in a variety of settings.
  • Experience in the development of bid material for DfE school projects.
  • Experience in working in partnership with Main Build Contractors.

You will have these Technical Skills:

  • Strategic view of active infrastructure solutions available in the market, including Cisco, HP, Meraki.
  • Detailed understanding of designing teacher walls.
  • Detailed understanding of how ICT is used in a variety of settings, including primary, secondary and SEN.
  • Competent use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio and MS Project for proposals, report writing and schematics.
  • Project Management within a consultancy/service environment (desirable).

Remuneration will be in line with experience and output. Travel and overnight stays are expected.
